Welcome to the Moriches Bay Projectâ„¢!

We are a local organization dedicated to working within our community to monitor and restore Moriches Bay. The Bay was once a thriving natural habitat for shellfish, eelgrass, and many other important aquatic species. However, over the last few decades the decline in water quality has led to a majority of their disappearance.

Please help the Moriches Bay Projectâ„¢ to improve the quality of our bay and make a difference you can see!

Volunteers Needed for Eelgrass Restoration Project

Saturday, June 3rd
792 Dune Rd. (West Hampton Dunes Overlook)
7:30 am - 10:30am (roughly 3 hours)

The Moriches Bay Project continues our eelgrass restoration efforts this season. We are looking for serious volunteers to help with this eelgrass restoration project. You will be collecting eelgrass seeds from an eelgrass bed in Great South Bay for planting at a restoration site in Moriches Bay.

We are looking for volunteers for 2 types of work:

  • Volunteers who can snorkel in shallow areas of the Bay and can bring their own mask, snorkel, fins (not essential). A wetsuit is a must.
  • Volunteers to count and organize seeds into bags to save for deployment at a later date.
