July 11th: Today, the first oyster beds were layed down in Moriches Bay; an achievment that has not been seen for more than a couple decades and was orchestrated by the Moriches Bay Project in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension. A special thanks to West Hampton Dunes resident Robert Strecker for assisting in scouting the locations.
July 1st: The Cornell Cooperative Eelgrass team was joined by Moriches Bay Project scientist Dwight Surgan on a joint effort to collect seed pods from the plants. Pods were gathered from a local eelgrass meadow then trasported to a resoration area on the east side of Swan Island. They will be suspended in bags to allow for wide dispersal.
