Watch Screening of the 1976 Documentary Baymen – Our Waters are Dying

by | Events

Please join Westhampton Beach Mayor Moore and the Village Conservation Advisory Council on July 7 at 12:00 noon for a discussion and screening of the 1976 documentary, “Baymen – Our Waters are Dying,” featuring Westhampton Beach’s own Bill Bennett.

The film, produced by the late former Remsenburg resident Anne Belle, was televised on PBS at the time of its release and received international acclaim. It is a 28-minute portrait of the way of life of Long Island’s shell fishermen and was filmed largely on Mecox and Great South Bays. It is particularly meaningful today, since the threat to the shellfish industry, talked about in the film, is still very much alive and in the news.

The screening will be preceded by a Q and A with CAC member Chris Clapp, a scientist with The Nature Conservancy. People may bring a brown-bag lunch and the Library will offer drinks and dessert.

When: Friday, July 7
Where: Westhampton Beach Free Library
Time: 12:00 to 2:00 PM
